If you had any sort of technical difficulties today, you weren't alone--Bucky was spotted fixing a flat in Rockingham today, according to two local fans who kindly shared their "hellos" with him earlier this afternoon. (As one reply wisely put it, better now than later--best to have the car in top-top shape for that trip to Nashville...)
And speaking of Nashville, there's a countdown of sorts happening on the Fox boards as well--hopefully the moderators there will leave this one intact! Looks like Bucky will head to Music City first, with Rocky joining him a little while afterward. They'll be missed by their musical peers in North Carolina, though--this overlooked Fayetteville Observer article from way back in February gives a clue as to how well-liked the Covingtons are in the regional music scene. The author, a drummer, filled in for Rocky during Rocky's time with Skracht Apple:
(Be sure to read the whole article--it's interesting to think about the turns Bucky and Rocky's musical journey has taken so far, as well as the Nashville adventure on the horizon...)The new drummer, Rocky Covington, wasn’t able to make a Raleigh gig at The Brewery with DL Token. So I agreed to fill in, learned the set and played that February show.
I drove back and forth to practice and met Rocky in the process. I remember him as a super laid-back guy who loved to laugh and was unusually friendly. He even let me use his drums during rehearsals.
..............................
What is interesting to me is that both Covingtons love music and both seem naturally laid back and comfortable in most any situation. But who would have guessed that one of them would make it this far on the pop-culture sensation “American Idol”?
It is a small, strange world indeed.
And while we're at it, here's another bit of musical insight from a locally-based poster who enjoyed Bucky's musical stylings long before most of us "met" him on Idol. Via TWoP:
How about a little summary on the history of Rocky / Bucky..You know, the more I read, the more I think that Bucky might emerge from Nashville with one of those "perennial" country-with-some-serious-drive albums that manages to have a major feel-good hit right off the bat. I'm looking for at least one drivin' down the road sing-along tune. (Heck, a Bucky Covington hit might even make changing my own flat tires a little more bearable...)
We'll start in High School, they always kinda wanted to be different in their mainstream "looks", it was obvious that Rocky took the hip rock mode where bucky took the country boy style.
They both like Rock, Country, Classic Rock...As most of you know, musical preference tends to change and grow as time rolls on and that's kinda how they were...Rocky more into rock and Bucky more into country.
At 19ish they started getting more into music, not just to listen to but to perform, I was say it started because of one our other friends Bands, at the time called Skracht Apple, now he's the lead singer of another band called "American Stalker", but i think generally speaking he was the spark of the "twins" new outlook on music.
Bucky learned the Guitar and Rocky the drums, they both joined bands etc. Rocky of course went the Rock band route and surprisingly Bucky did as well but after months of that he changed suites if you will.
Bucky went the way of the Country/Rock/Classic Rock singer and has been doing that ever since, a few years now i guess...
Finally, while we're waiting to sing along with Bucky on the radio (volume cranked up to 11, wind in my hair, smile on my face...oh wait, got lost there for a moment) a witty poster at the Fox boards has a couple of brand new "odes" for us to sing along to--"Nothin' Left to Say" (well, the boards have been pretty quiet) and the ever-popular "Ode to Bucky's Flat Tire". Enjoy!
See you soon...
Girl, I think you'd better let someone else do the driving when that CD comes out. You will be too happy to concentrte on the road, lol! :-) Yeah I hope there is a good singalong on there. "Amie" is getting tired, lol. :-) How are you today??
ReplyDeleteHey there, anon...don't say nothin' bad about "Amie", now! "Aime, what 'chu wanna do..." :D
ReplyDeleteActually, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a catchy sing-along song on Bucky's CD. And if he can have a hit as big as "Amie", one that people sing along to twenty/thirty (not sure!) years after it came out, all the better. Wishing him a lot of big hits, for selfish reasons...I need a lot of good music for the road. :D
