Erin's Victory Dance (updated 11:19 Eastern; conference call number below)

This simple and elegant graphic by pookiesmom94 is the nineteenth entry in our "Bucky Covington CD Cover Un-Contest". She cleverly combined the great Fox promo wallpaper portrait of Bucky with a neutral background and classic, low-key fonts, letting the dramatic shadows and Bucky's direct gaze do all the talking. A truly arresting image--this would definitely stop you in your tracks at your favorite music store... Thanks again for the beautiful covers, pookiesmom94!

Over at the Fox boards,
Happydays has opened the conference call thread for Bucky's appearance at tonight's Greensboro benefit for the Victory Junction Gang Camps . I'll post the numbers here for those who can't get to the Fox board, and like yesterday, I'll try to keep up with highlights from the play by play.

If you're able to get into the call tonight--or even if you aren't--please consider thanking the Victory Junction charity with a donation. (There's an ongoing drive to celebrate Bucky and Rocky's birthday with donations to Victory Junction as well.)

6:50--Looks like things are running a little late, but as soon as the numbers are posted there, I'll share them here. Stay tuned...

7:26--From the Fox boards:

Bucky will not be out until 9:30. Not sure what time the band will start and whether or not he is doing a set before Bucky comes up. Just check here for updates. You guys will know the minute I know.

9:40--Still standing by...but there's a fun new Hugo's recap thread starting up that might help make the time go by faster...

605-990-0400 then when asked dial in 195518 then hit pound key #

(Please press 6 to mute yourself after you get in!)

9:50--"Simple Man"

9:52--singing "Happy Birthday" (possibly to Mary Beth, who is sponsoring the Victory Dance in memory of her sister)

9:56--Some posters mentioned "Should Have Been a Cowboy"; then "A Lot Like My Hometown" ("Kids are screaming loudly. They loved it") and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".

10:01--"Keep Your Hands to Yourself"

10:04--"Turn the Page"

10:08--"Neon Moon"

10:15--"Stand by Me" (bet this sounds awesome...)

10:18--"Superstition"

10:24--"Gimme Three Steps"

10:28--"Used to Be Mine"

10:30--"Suspicious Minds" (Bucky asked if anyone there was an Elvis fan--the largely very young crowd cheered.)

10:35--"One more song..." it's "Sweet Home Alabama"

10:42--Bucky "thanked everyone for coming out to support the effort" and it sounds like "A Lot Like My Hometown" is the encore. Happydays: "This song brought tears to my eyes last night and totally ruined a lot of other people's make up also." (You know we out of towners are dying to hear this one now...)

10:59--"Bucky will be on to talk to fans in about 15-20 minutes; meeting with crowd and signing autographs now."

11:19--Sounds like there were some technical issues and Bucky had a hard time hearing everything, but he was on the line for a short time to say hello. (Scroll down to ogopogo's 8:19 PST post for quick quotes.) He said he was "not positive, but pretty sure" about doing a possible show in Missouri (I have no details about what that show might be---anyone else?) and sang a bit of "Wave on Wave" as a goodbye, with Scooter and Ducky on backing vocals.

The call is over, but the conversation's going strong--and as you can see from that thread, there'll be lots of great photos, media and memories from this weekend shared in the next few days. (We'll try to keep up with as much of it as we can.) Many thanks to everyone who made the conference call and the play-by-play possible tonight!

  2. Tracy, thanks so much for sharing your excitement--you sound thrilled! For those of us who couldn't be on the call--can you tell us more about "Hometown"? Fast, slow, medium tempo, country-rock or flat-out country, lyrics? I keep reading "hit"--this makes me feel good! Spill! :)

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Like so many others, I don't have time to search for the scoop. Thanks to you all, I know where to go to get the scoop! I have thought of so many songs that I know Bucky would sound great singing (but then what wouldn't he?) and now his fans are beginning to hear them. Can't wait for that CD!!!!

  4. Tracey from Ohio, thanks and hello! You know, if you really think about it, this is the first time since Bucky became a national name that we've really been able to hear him sing songs that he loves--not just stuff that Idol could get cleared or chose for him. It's really a little like the scene from "The Wizard of Oz" when the view goes from black-and-white to Technicolor...

Kind of exciting to get a fuller sense of who he is musically, and it's been fun reading the reactions from this weekend's shows. Can't wait for that CD--and his own tour--either!
