(Photo by "Heather Loves AI" at IDF; click image to preview her beautiful L.A. concert gallery.)Both the Idol tour and the rumor mill seem to have taken Monday off--but tonight, the music and the tinfoil-set magic start all over again. If you're looking for one of those great last-minute seats for the Sacramento show or Wednesday's San Jose concert, hit those links and cross your fingers--here's hoping you're right up front this week!
A very talented photographer was right up front for the Los Angeles Staples show--"Heather Loves AI" shared her beautiful front-row shots yesterday at the Tour Media board at IDF; her full album is posted at Photobucket, and she says there are Anaheim photos on the way. Bookmark that thread and enjoy. (And a big thank you to Heather for her generosity.)
Looking ahead, this San Jose Mercury News article indicates an interesting twist--the LMBO shows have become just about as newsworthy as the Idol concerts, even for the non-hardcore/internet savvy fans. It's great to see both LMBO and the "Idol Rat Pack"--yes, I think that's silly too, but it seems to have stuck--get some press beyond the Idol tour blurbs. (Not sure if the last bit of citizen-paparazzi encouragement in the Mercury News snippet is a trend to celebrate, though...)
The Fox boards are buzzing with news of a possible re-airing of this year's Idol series beginning in September on the Fox Reality Channel--a big treat for those of us who came into the series late and/or couldn't record it the first go 'round. So far, nothing's posted on the channel's website, but if it's a go, there should be an announcement soon. (Hey, I'm just happy that I'll finally be able to see the "Simple Man" performance I missed, and that the "love you 'bout a thousand times" mystery will finally be solved. Now if I can just convince my cable company to carry the Fox Reality Channel sometime within the next few days!)
And while we're in "blast from the past" mode, here are a few somewhat retro links. If you're looking for a poster-sized photo or two from the Greensboro concert, you're in luck--the Coliseum has posted some enormous images on their events page. There's an unfortunately blurry shot of Bucky and a fun group snap featuring...well, Bucky's hair mainly, but it's nice. Click to expand these to their full 2016x3024 size, and be prepared to scroll a lot. From Charlotte, here's Bucky's pre-show interview from local station 107.9 The Link; and from Tampa, a hurried but interesting print interview with Bucky from the Tampa Tribune. (Sounds like we weren't the only ones who would have preferred Bucky singing something a bit more country on this tour...)
More later today--see you soon!
I like the black shirt!! <3
ReplyDeleteMe too! Guess the guys had time to shop a little while in California. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Buckymania. I love reading your blog every day. It's the best source for all things Bucky!
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, what is "the "love you 'bout a thousand times" mystery "?? I must have missed that one :).
(Hello and whoops--I think I posted my reply to your question in the wrong spot! Here it is again...)
ReplyDeleteHi and thanks for stopping in! :)
I didn't see the early shows, but I think "love you 'bout a thousand times" might be a lyric that Bucky mixed up during the Hollywood rounds. A screencap with that as its caption was one of the first images of Bucky I ever saw online. Always wondered what it was all about (and if it was indeed a mangled line, what the heck was the song?)
Maybe a kind reader will solve the mystery for both of us...I hope...
The mystery to "love you bout a thousand times" was a montage they did of everyone screwing up the lyrics to "I can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honeybunch)" by the Four Tops. There is a clip of Bucky screwing up the lyrics singing lead in his Hollywood group song in the intro to "Simple Man" and Paula basically tells him that he's lucky he has a good tone to his voice or he wouldn't be going on to the next round. He also happens to be wearing that hideous "prison jumpsuit" orange shirt! Those AI stylists really helped him big time. Does your ancient PC let you watch videos on youtube? If so, I will upload it and send you the link.
ReplyDeleteThanks buckymania and carol for the repies.
ReplyDeleteAh Bucky and the mangled lyrics. So endearing for some reason. I'll have to go find that intro to Simple Man. I remember that "prison jumpsuit" shirt vividly (it's hard to forget!). The stylists really did help, Jessica Simpson hair and all ;-).
(and it's my bad on the comment - I posted it under the wrong post and then came back and didn't see it here so figured I did it wrong the first time. Whoops! I'll learn eventually :-). It's under the Viper Room Memories post if you want to delete it.)
Thanks for solving that mystery, Carol and Anon! As you might have guessed, I have been totally kicking myself for missing the very first part of the season--hopefully that rumored official AI5 DVD set will happen, and the joys of Early Bucky will be a mystery no more.
ReplyDelete(And his current upscale Western gear looks perfect on stage...yep, gotta give the stylists a hand.)
Carol, my old PC chops most You Tube videos into a soundless sputtering mess, but you are very kind to offer--maybe some lurkers who can see it would like to hear Bucky's Four Tops "remix"!
P.S.: Carol, I just saw the clip you posted at GoFish--thank you. That was so much fun to see! The styling and stage moves have really evolved, but the beautifully gruff voice and the Southern charm were always there, weren't they? Loved finally getting a chance to watch that. (Yes, I am grinning like an idiot at my monitor...that was quite a lyrical improvisation.)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
