There are a few early audience reports popping up from yesterday's Birmingham show, and the news is all good--a satisfied Fox-board Bucky fan who was there shares this: "His voice sounded strong and good and can that boy move!" and adds that "the audience loved him." (Now that's what we like to hear!) You might want to return to her thread tomorrow; she says that photos and video may be on the way...
And while you're at the official boards, be sure to check out this clever Bucky-centric play-by-play of last night's concert--all the details on Bucky's performance in one handy thread. A tip of the hat to the author for an excellent idea...
Right now, there's a fresh YouTube Birmingham performance of "Patience" available, courtesy of a kind Ace Young fan at MJ's Big Blog. Also at MJ's, in the first Birmingham comments section, an eloquent recapper posted a very affectionate account of running into Bucky at Monday night's after-after party at Oasis in Birmingham--much Bucky love ensued as the comments rolled on. (We love when that happens, too. He is definitely making friends and fans on this tour...)
There should be many, many more reviews, photos, recaps and memories of Taylor Hicks' homecoming show as the day rolls on, so watch for updates; in the meantime, Taylor mentions his buddies Bucky, Ace and Elliott--and a certain musical aesthetic that I suspect they all share to some degree--in this AL.com/Huntsville Times story:
"I think it's a great way to blow off steam for the 'American Idol' Tour," Hicks said of playing clubs. "We went from the 'American Idol' bubble to the 'American Idol' Tour bubble. It allows us to see some fans that aren't the typical concert-goers. When you go to WorkPlay or Crossroads, you see fans your age and you can have a beer with them.
"Those are the kinds of gigs I like to do - a good music room, good lights, not an arena, and people who like the music and are in touch with the journey. I'm a live performer; it's my job."
It was Bucky's rootsy, real, beautifully authentic voice--and those incredible original songs--that put me "in touch with this journey". And as the weeks have gone by, I've really come to appreciate what Taylor, Elliott, Ace and Chris have to offer, both musically and in terms of what they bring, from their respective genres, to the whole "Idol" experience. It could be that these guys (and Bo Bice, who deserves some major props) could give a fresher and stronger new musical credibility to the "American Idol" label, even as they ultimately transcend it and go on to bigger and better things. Next stop, Nashville. There could be some excellent seats released very soon, so here's the Ticketmaster link du jour--good luck, and I hope you get a lovely one up front!More later...
