Bucky Covington, "Pop" star...

And you thought my Idol screencaps were bad! Chris, Bucky and Ace in a preview clip, 6/06The Idol Pop-Tarts video page is now up and running, and it's a rather interesting bit of shameless marketing--especially if you're a Bucky Covington fan.

First, the bad--well, okay, not so much bad as inevitable--news first. The videos on the page are short preview snippets. In order to unlock the full-length "webisodes" you'll need to--all together now!--find the codes inside specially marked packages of Kellogg's Pop Tarts ®. (This is still a non-profit blog, and the previous sentence is not a commercial, dang it!) If your Pavlovian reflexes are as conditioned as mine, you'll be pleased to know that you're not obligated to buy the scary-looking red-white-and-blue Pop Tarts to get the codes--the other, more normal flavors will have them too. Let's go Krogering, y'all...

The Bucky Slide, closeup and unbooted...The good news? Bucky's literally at the center of the first preview (in which Chris, Bucky and Ace talk about the must-haves for success on tour) and the star of the second one (Paris asks him to teach them the "Bucky slide", and the fun dance from "Real Good Man" gets another workout, complete with a closeup of the fancy footwork.)

Has someone out there discovered that Bucky is--despite Simon Cowell's predictions--actually marketable? You'll remember the funny "Idol moms" opinion piece during the show's run, in which a Philadelphia Inquirer writer pointed him out as a family favorite. Between that and the virtual love-fest for Bucky on many Idol-related boards, it's pretty safe to assume the "Idol VIP Lounge" and Pop-Tarts may be Bucky's first endorsements, but definitely not the last ones he'll be offered...

(Yes, I am totally giggling at myself right about now--secret codes in a Pop-Tarts box? Honestly. I am now an honorary twelve year old. If you're in the same boat, you'll be pleased to know we're not alone--check out this thread at the official board, where a lot of Bucky's fans are laughing at themselves--and looking forward to the next "webisode".)

More later!

  2. Hee! Honestly, I haven't had a Pop-Tart since I was fourteen or so...but you know I'll be haunting the breakfast aisle this week. (I'm single w/no kids, so I don't even have a cover story!)

My nickname's "Winnie", by the way--"B.B." is short for a pen name I've used for many years, and when a buddy jokingly asked if it was short for "Bucky Blogger" as well, I decided to use it for tags and fanlistings and such. But y'all can call me Winnie anytime! :-)
