Coffee break news: Wednesday's sales and chart update

By request, Bucky Covington on stage at Uncle Ron's in Lincoln; photo by the very talented Rachel. Thanks, Rachel!

Kudos to the very kind anonymous commenter who shared this news about Bucky Covington's last and next singles: "I'll Walk is showing up on the [Mediabase] weighted chart at #168. According to a poster on Pulse, it was sent to radio on 4/14 with no official add date listed yet." More chart news from another gracious Anon: "It's Good to Be Us" is now #2 on the Radio & Records country recurrent chart. (Scroll way down--it's there.)

And from Ken Barnes at USAToday's Idol Chatter blog, some good news--Bucky's post "Nashville Idols" sales boost seems to have a long tail. Bucky Covington, the album, sold 1,500 copies this week--down from 1,600 the week of the TV spot, but up from the 1,200 he'd sold the week before his Idol appearance, for a total of 336,000 and counting. (Will there be a similar CMT Music Awards boost next week? Stay tuned.)

The album's anniversary is tomorrow--has it really been a year? Wow. Picking up an copy for a friend, relative, grad or country-loving service member is a nice touch, and tomorrow would be a very cool day to do it. (Shameless plug alert--it can be ordered from Bucky's official site...)

Speaking of TV, boosts and such, here's a tidbit I forgot earlier today. Bucky and Elliott Yamin share so many mutual fans, and if you're among them, tune into American Idol tonight--Elliott will be treating us all to a song. (What song? That still seems to be a mystery, but it's bound to be good. Will Bucky grace the Idol stage sometime this season? Hmmmm...)

More later--have a great evening!--Winnie

Bucky's CD sales are really a true illustration of the tortoise and hare. He hasn't sold under 1000 for a whole year where other idols who had big initial sales are now selling only 100 a week. Slow and steady is good for me.

  2. Hi, Beesims! It's good for me, too--that steady pace seems to indicate that all the touring and hard work is having an effect. Love the ides of him doing this for those 20-30 years...nice start!

As predicted by R&R, IG2BU went recurrent. It is #2 on today's Billboard Hot Country Recurrents:

I heard "I'll Walk" on the radio today. The DJ gave it a great intro and special notice.

I was surprised, 'cause I didn't think it was "officially" released yet.
Does that mean we should be requesting it now instead of IGTBU?

  5. Hi, Anon--a special intro? That is terrific! It's technically not released yet, but if your local station is playing it now, a call to say "great tune, thanks, would love to hear it again" is a nice touch. :)

No need to go into heavy request mode before the release date, but local response is always welcome from what I can gather. ) Congrats!
