Friday news: Power Picks today, a very sweet 16, a West Virginia stop and more...

Bucky Covington shares a smile from the stage of the Ryman in Nashville during the 1/12 Grand Ole Opry; photo by our very kind friend Danna. You can see more of Danna's beautiful shots here--our thanks to you!

Check out CMT Power Picks. Your votes decide which country music videos get played!First things first: Bucky Covington's "It's Good to Be Us" will face a head-to-head challenge on today's CMT Power Picks at noon ET. His matchup will happen during the first half of the hour, and since this is his first Power Picks bout in a long time, it's a must-win! Click here to go directly to the Power Picks main page, hit the "Vote Now" button, and stand by to cast your vote for Bucky...and feel free to enlist a friend or two.

Bucky's winning them over on video and in concert--his show last year at the beautiful Mountain Lakes Ampitheater in Flatwoods, West Virginia must have made a big impression, because he's been invited back for this year's season! The newly-revealed concert date is August 13, 2008, and you can purchase tickets right now at the Mountain Lakes online box office.

A big thanks to the kind folks at the Erwin Record's "Country's Chatter" blog for the sweet mention, and for the terrific photo of Bucky with WXBQ's Marc Tragler that graces today's post. Marc and Bucky chatted during his stop in the area last summer; it's nice to see a warm-weather smile, isn't it?

Here's the rest of what's happening today:

Chart news: Bucky's hot single is getting hotter--it's moved up to #16 on the Mediabase weighted chart, and it keeps its #17 spot on the Top 500 this morning. Number 15 looks promising, but a closer inspection reveals that the longtime hit maker right behind Bucky is extremely close to a polevault into that coveted spot. If you've been shy about requesting "It's Good to Be Us", now's the time to grab a little courage and go for it. Call your local DJ today, and remember your favorite nationally syndicated country radio show tonight, too. Bucky's flirting hard with that #15 spot, and we can help put him over the top!

Upcoming shows: Dierks Bentley's Throttle Wide Open tour made a huge splash in Gainesville last night, and the first reports from Bucky's fans who stopped by after yesterday's conference call are rave reviews, indeed. Hildi sponsored the call (thanks so much for your kindness, Hildi!) and those listening in heard a refreshed, ready and rockin' Bucky in excellent voice. For those who'd like to hear and see him rock the crowd tonight,
you can catch Bucky, Luke Bryan and Dierks at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre in Pompano Beach, FL at 8:00 p.m. or so. Ticketmaster shows some nice last-minute "production hold" seats popping up--good luck, and enjoy the show!

Tickets for most stops on the Throttle Wide Open tour are available at Ticketmaster; tickets for the Jackson, TN Dierks Bentley concert on April 3rd are offered at the City of Jackson site, and you'll find general admission tickets for Bucky's 2/22 headlining date at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI at www.etix.com.

This shot is quickly moving into "Most requested" territory--Rocky Covington and Bucky Covington share a smile on stage at the Glass Cactus in Grapevine, Texas, 1/19; photo by the very kind AmaTexMom. Click the image to see more of her gallery at her site, Bucky Fan Pics. Thanks again , AmaTexMom!

On the tube and around the net: The CMT Online Awards will repeat for the final time on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET. Online, The Covington Times features Hildi's photo of a very cute Bucky-themed birthday cake created by WJC Fan, a fantastic portrait of Rocky Covington by Trish, and some very good news about tonight--looks like Hildi will be sponsoring a conference call from Pompano Beach!

The good news at the Times doesn't stop there--talented photographer FLCathy, who brought us the beautiful Floyd's Music Shop stills and videos in Deecmber, was at last night's show with her camera in hand--look for lots of memories from Gainesville in the days ahead. (Our thanks to the kind fans at the Times for keeping us posted about the happenings at Bucky's official board--it's much appreciated!)
